the metropolis is launching its track snow removal system this Friday
This Friday, November 12, the metropolis of Dijon will launch its snow plan. It will last until March 11, 2022. We explain the details of the system which includes 300 agents and 46 vehicles.
The fog that hangs over and the drop in temperatures over the original town since this morning is a good sign that winter is fast approaching. And who says winter, necessarily says snow. The metropolis of Dijon (Côte-d’Or) is then preparing for the potential fall of snowflakes and will launch from this Friday, November 12 its snow removal plan for the tracks of its 23 municipalities.
The device is activated until March 11, 2022. “To reduce the harmful effects of ice and snow, ensure the safety of users, the operation of transport and maintain economic activity, this system can operate 24 hours a day thanks to patrollers and on-call officers” , specifies the metropolis of Dijon in a press release.
Snow plan figures
In total, 1,150 km of tracks will be treated by the metropolitan area’s snow plan. 300 agents, 46, 2 washers equipped with blades and 8 answering machines will be mobilized. In addition, the device counts “an on-call service which includes a minimum of 35 vehicles”.
Snow removal actions will be organized from officers who will patrol the field in order to assess the situation. But the services of the metropolis will also rely on live weather information and will be in contact with the services of Météo France.
The entire network to be processed is divided into two levels of importance. The main roads will thus be transformed as a priority. The secondary streets which essentially provide service functions will be cleared of snow in a second step.
Help for the elderly or disabled
The metropolis of Dijon recalls the obligation for each owner or tenant to “clear the snow and eliminate the ice in front of his property in order to ensure safe traffic for pedestrians”.
But the communal social action center (CCAS) offers help to people over 65 and people with disabilities. They can thus call the CCAS on 0 800 21 3000. The latter will then send an external service provider.
But certain criteria must still be met to be eligible for this assistance: these people must be isolated, the person around them cannot clear snow in front of their home, they must be present at their home on the day of the snow removal and must not reside in collective housing. “In this case, it is the trustee who intervenes”, specifies the metropolis.
Finally, the city recalls a few instructions to apply in order to reduce the risks in the event of snowfall:
- Keep your vehicle in perfect running order (tires, wiper blades, heating)
- Limit travel during bad weather
- Plan longer travel times and avoid rush hours
- Reduce speed and adopt a smooth ride
- Favor carpooling and public transport to limit the number of vehicles on the move
- Facilitate the passage of snow removal engines
