Portugal and much more in a marathon of decisions for the 2022 World Cup
The coming weekend is one of big decisions in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, especially in the European zone, where eight teams that join Germany and Denmark will not qualify directly for the final stage to be played in the Qatar.
There is, however, more to decide in the African qualification and also in the South American, in games you can watch on the big screen. See the highlights and all the international matches that Portuguese TV channels can follow.
Friday, 11/12:
Cyprus-Portugal U21 (4:00 pm, Channel 11)
It is the first of Portugal’s two games before the Cypriots, in the space of five days. The team led by Rui Jorge will seek to maintain the victorious path to secure and cement the leadership of Group 4 in qualifying for Euro 2023. It has nine points from three games and is in first place. Cyprus are third with seven points, one less than Greece, who have a game more than these two teams. A duel with a curious fact to be seen: Portugal and Cyprus are two of the three teams, out of a total of 53 competing for qualification, who have not conceded any goals in this qualification: 13-0 of Portugal, 12-0 of Cyprus .
Italy-Switzerland (7:45 pm, SportTV1)
The penultimate round of group C of the European qualification for the 2022 World Cup brings a game that can be decisive in direct qualification. Italy, European champions, host Switzerland after a 0-0 draw on Swiss soil in the first round. The two teams have 14 points each and a win for either side will earn first place. If there is a tie, the decisions will drag to Monday, for Switzerland-Bulgaria and for Northern Ireland-Italy.
Andorra-Poland (19:45, SportTV3)
A game that could also keep Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa on the route of direct qualification with Poland for the 2022 World Cup, as it can also ensure the dispute for the Pay, via second place. To drag decisions for the last round of group I on Monday, Poland (17 points) must do, in Andorra, a better result than the leader England (20 points) does in the reception to Albania. On the other hand, just a better result in Andorra than in Albania, do it in English solo to mathematically secure second place.
Uruguay-Argentina (11:00 pm, SportTV1)
On one side, the Sporting athlete Manuel Ugarte. Make another one, the Benfica player Nicolás Otamendi. Uruguay and Argentina will face each other this Friday night, in a game possibly more important for the Uruguayans, who defend at least fifth place – giving access to the intercontinental play-off – but also attack one of the top four. Óscar Tabárez’s men have 16 points, the same as Colombia and one for third, Ecuador. Argentina is the second category in the South American qualification, with 25 points and the question of Brazil’s game (suspended) still unresolved. A duel that promises to be warm.
Saturday, 11/13:
Belgium-Estonia (19:45, SportTV3)
A victory straight away, for the Belgium selection, of the Benfica player Jan Vertonghen, direct qualification for the World Cup 2022. Otherwise, he will always have to look at what Wales do in welcoming Belarus. If they don’t finish qualifying on Saturday, a Flemish team will go to the Welsh home to discuss first place on Tuesday, in the final round of group E.
France-Kazakhstan (19:45, SportTV1)
In a very balanced group D, marked by many draws and with the first two places open for France (12 points), Ukraine (9 points but one more game), Finland (8 points) and Bosnia (7 points), the French team it’s just up to you to select direct qualification. A triumph against the Kazakhs automatically earns the title holder’s passport to the 2022 World Cup.
Sunday, 11/14:
Croatia-Russia (14:00, SportTV1)
It is another of the highlights of the national teams weekend, with red-hot decisions for the first place in Group H of the European qualification for the World Cup 2022. On Croatian soil, Croatia and Russia will discuss, on Sunday, who will qualify directly for the competition to be played in Qatar, on the 10th and final round of the grouping. Whoever doesn’t, falls to the Pay.
Portugal-Serbia (19:45, RTP1)
At Estádio da Luz, another of the highlights of this international journey, with Portugal hosting Serbia in the dispute for the first place in group A. One thing is certain: whoever comes out on the bottom doesn’t leave empty-handed, as they can still get qualification through the Pay.
Spain-Sweden (7:45 pm, SportTV2)
Another direct decision to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, in group B of the European qualification. Spain-Sweden, with Sporting Pablo Sarabia on the side of nuestros hermanos, will dispel all doubts of those who already have a ticket to Qatar and who will pass through the Pay qualification, via second place.
