Germany lost 0: 3 (0: 1, 0: 1, 0: 1) to Austria on Thursday evening in Füssen at the start of the Olympic qualification, the dream of the games in Beijing threatens to burst early.
“We had a lot of chances, a lot of outnumbering. But if you don’t put things in it becomes difficult. You don’t win a game with zero goals,” post defender Anna-Maria Reich at “MagentaSport”: “In the end, a bit of luck was missing. ”
The team of national coach Thomas Schädler initially lived up to its role as favorites, only one goal was missing. The Austrians succeeded in being outnumbered after a counterattack by Theresa Schafzahl (19th). Goalkeeper Sandra Abstreiter fended off a penalty from Anna Meixner after a good half hour, but then blundered at 0: 2 by Janine Weber (35th). Weber caused disillusionment for the DEB team around captain Julia Zorn with her second goal five minutes before the end.
Germany, which is still playing against Italy and Denmark, has to rely on rifle help after the 0-3 with a view to Beijing, because only the tournament winners can buy tickets for the Winter Olympics (February 4 to 20, 2022).
