Today, the capital city of Prague signed a memorandum with the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Czech Republic and Prague City Tourism. The mutual agreement starts cooperation on the promotion of the capital abroad and the background of inbound tourism. Furthermore, Prague also undertakes to invest more funds in the cultivation and development of sustainable tourism. However, they will not come from the pockets of Praguers, but from the fee for the stay, which wants to increase Prague to CZK 50 from January.
“The amount that Prague collects for the extra stay fee is investing in tourism again. These funds will allow us to reduce marketing campaigns and other measures that have so far lacked funds or we have had to cut from the city budget. As a result, the people of Prague, entrepreneurs in tourism and the city are working on it, “says Pavel Vyhnánek, Deputy Mayor of the City of Prague. m of Prague for finance and budget.
The capital generates more than sixty percent of the total volume of tourism in the Czech Republic, from which the whole country benefits. However, the costs are primarily borne by the Prague budget. Among other things, the memorandum signed today sets out a new financing system, where half of the revenue from the fee, which should amount to CZK 50 per night from January, will go back to support Prague’s tourism. Through this mechanism, tourism will earn for its own promotion and the city will be able to support its cultivation more. Depending on the success of the tourist season and the number of nights spent, the capital could raise up to 200 million crowns more per year, which it invests in tourism again.
“We very much appreciate the fact that Prague actively supports the development of tourism, which is very important for entrepreneurs as well as city residents. From our point of view, the crucial fact is that part of the residence fees will be reinvested back into the promotion of Prague, as an attractive tourist destination. The campaigns that Prague City Tourism is preparing from these funds are very effective and their benefits are clearly measurable, “comments Václav Stárek, President of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Czech Republic.
The main subject of the memorandum, which was signed today by the representatives of the capital city of Prague, the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Czech Republic and Prague City Tourism, is mutual cooperation on the pillar of cultivated and sustainable tourism. All parties are committed to developing Prague and building Prague’s image as an attractive destination for congresses, conferences and culture. An important tool in the implementation will be marketing campaigns, especially abroad.
“We appreciate this historic agreement between the local government and tourism entrepreneurs. In the end, everyone will benefit from this increase, but especially the people of Prague. This income will help cultivate tourism in the metropolis, “adds František Cipro, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prague City Tourism.
