college musicians selected to play with Ibrahim Maalouf on stage in Paris!
They are part of the artistic excellence center of the Barnier college in the northern districts. An orchestra class will take the stage with the jazz star.
They were chosen but are volunteers. About a hundred students from Barnier College, wedged between two cities, La Bricarde and La Castellane, play music or circus as part of the artistic excellence center, created in 2017.
The icing on the cake for them: the orchestra class was selected by theOrchestra at school association during a call for projects. They will intervene on one of the pieces ofIbrahim Maalouf, on the Zenith stage, on December 16 in Paris, just that!
The excellence pole is spread over 3 years. From 5th to 3rd, music students, 3 hours in addition to their usual lessons. They each chose their instrument, among trumpet, flute, saxophone or even djembe.
Yesmine, 13, in 4th grade initially wanted to play the sax, then was won over by the trumpet. Already passionate about drawing (she sketched her whole class playing music, painting hung in orchestra class).
“It’s like a second passion, I don’t know if I will continue afterwards because I give priority to my studies – I would like to do architext -, but I am happy to go and play on stage with Ibrahim Maalouf!”, she explains all smiles.
The establishment is classified in priority education zone, the students come from very disadvantaged backgrounds. To wear them, pull them up and help them move forward, nothing beats culture.
And it works, the idea is not only to create cohesion, but also to bring students together and improve results in other subjects.
They use instruments that they are not used to seeing in their rap universe, notes their music teacher. Enough to open their minds. They are followed by the baton, by the music teacher.
“We are happy to go to Paris, we will show that in the northern districts of Marseille things are happening, it’s a challenge!”, explains Lionel Sabattier responsible for the orchestra class.
They have the opportunity to work independently for 1 hour, and they have 2 hours of lessons in collaboration with The city of music.
It’s not just music in life. There is also the circus! And in college 75 students are part of the adventure.
Instead of sports hours, they do circus disciplines, in partnership with the Archaos troupe, labeled Pôle National du Cirque.
Go out of the neighborhood, they do it on Tuesday afternoon. No special bus due to lack of aid, but already taking the city bus, it is already a step towards the outside …
This circus class was originally created for ULIS classes (inclusion classes for disabled students DYS) by Grégory Vuidot, ULIS Coordinator of the Henri Barnier college.
“This cultural project can in fact be applied to all children. They can enjoy the facilities, and progress is dazzling, especially for some: if only the fact of being able to express themselves in front of adults … and of to be able to pass suddenly thanks to these workshops the oral of the patent easily! “
Djibrill despite all his coordination difficulties made enormous progress in class thanks to the patience and kindness of the supervisors of Archaos.
All smiles he throws himself on all the workshops first, he who felt apart.
Their project to all: write and play a show during the Biinternational circus fair…
