Wild animals conquer the city of Salzburg
More and more wild animals live in the urban environment of humans. According to biologists, eagle owls are now breeding on the Mönchsberg.
They swim in the Salzach, build dams on city streams and nest in the steep walls of the Mönchsberg. At night you can see them scurrying like cats across the streets and disappearing into the darkness of the canyons. And as a true highlight in the great circus of species, eagle owls have even been spotted dying like Harry Potter’s owl Hedwig, with the beating of its wings, headed for St. Peter’s Abbey to settle on the monks’ cross.
