The great Peter Millowitsch accounts: “Cologne is too ugly for me” | Regional
Cologne – The name Millowitsch stands for Cologne like the cathedral and the Kölsch. But when Peter Millowitsch (72) thinks of his hometown, he becomes angry and sad.
“I have nothing to do with Cologne anymore. That’s too ugly for me, ”revealed the popular actor and former theater director BILD. He lives in the countryside in Frechen-Königsdorf and says: “I don’t go into town anymore if I don’t have to.”
Why? “If I come in here, I’ll be hit by a blow at Rudolfplatz. When I see this new building complex – it doesn’t get any uglier. “
Millowitsch means the new Wallarkaden between Habsburgerring, Rudolfplatz and Pilgrimstraße. Eight floors of around 20,000 square meters of office space. A mix of retail and gastronomy for 140 million euros. It has been under construction since 2017, now it is finished quickly – and Peter Millowitsch stunned before it.
“Every square meter is used here,” says Millowitsch. “That is certainly very interesting from an economic point of view, but architecturally an urban disaster.”
Was he still annoyed here?
“That the old opera opposite was not rebuilt after the war. That would have been a completely different address here. The ring would certainly have developed much more elegantly here. Without porn and cheap shops. “
He also shakes his head about the opera on Offenbachplatz. Not his taste – and he has no words for the permanent renovation.
Peter Millowitsch still comes to the city for culture. “Now I’m going to the Wallraf Museum with my sister. That is still a bright spot. “
So a few more conciliatory words …
