The doctors of “Hippocrates” of Thessaloniki warn with resignations
printed edition
The catapult letter of the 18 specialist doctors of the hospital describes their physical and mental exhaustion, as they operate under unacceptable and unsafe conditions of treatment for both the patients and themselves. Εκτός Off-duty vigils continue in all therapies.
Terror vigils in hospitals, as a result of the sweeping pandemic throughout the prefecture of Thessaloniki, with medical and nursing staff on the verge of collapse and the rage for abandonment growing, articulate a situation that is much worse than the worst day. last year’s “black November”.
And if yesterday the “Ef.Syn.” published the letter of despair and protest of last week of all the doctors in the Pathological Clinics of “Hippocrates” (18 specialist doctors) – “the worst thing is that last November looks like a walk in the countryside in front of what is coming” – last night . the same doctors sent a new letter, now directly threatening to resign!
It is obvious that the doctors were waiting to see the reactions of the Ministry of Health after the uncontrolled vigil on Sunday that flooded the clinics, but also after the surprise visit of the leader of the official opposition Alexis Tsipras, which was not treated like a bell by the government. showed that he can not or does not want to hear anything, which is why the Minister of Health Thanos Plevris tried to beautify the government failure.
The catapult letter of the 18 specialist doctors of “Hippocrates” on November 8 is addressed to the administration of the hospital, the commander of the 4th RAE and the directors of the Medical Service of the hospital as well as to the director of the Scientific Council:
“Following the document with the protocol number 49850 / 3.11.21, which, among other things, informs you about the incomplete fixing of the Covid clinics and their unsafe operation and as a consequence of the absence of any initiative on your part, despite the fact that in Yesterday, a third Covid wing was deployed as a result of the increase in the number of imports, we come back to ask you to take the necessary decisions within the day that will ensure:
1 The smooth morning operation of the clinics for the most effective management and movement of patients (staffing with a sufficient number of specialists and specialists as well as experienced nursing staff, physiotherapists, administrative support and medical equipment).
2 The safe on-call, which at least requires the presence of a specialist, a specialist pathologist and an assistant specialist per wing.
We are physically and mentally exhausted and do not accept to continue operating under unacceptable and unsafe conditions of care for both patients and ourselves. “If you do not make immediate decisions, we consider that we will be forced to resign.”
The last dramatic paragraph unfortunately does not reflect the exhaustion of the doctors only of “Hippocrates” as the situation is out of control in all hospitals. There was no doctor or member of the nursing staff with whom “Ef.Syn.” Spoke yesterday. and maintain his composure. The worst thing is that this no longer seems strange as at the “Papanikolaou” Hospital the on-call time was closed yesterday with 46 admissions of patients and four patients to be disbanded outside the ICU.
In this climate, only the confession of the intensivist at “Papanikolaou”, Evangelos Kaimakamis, was not heard as strange or shocking, who in his statements to MEGA said that in Thessaloniki the occupancy is over 100%. Treatment is already underway. “People are already dying every day outside the intensive care unit,” he said, noting that “we have already exceeded the capabilities of the health system. It does not make sense to see if there are 420-470 of the intubated, the choice is already made and the people are dying in a row for no reason “.
It is obvious that the situation is not only related to Covid cases, there is also a problem in handling non-Covid cases, many claim that we are a couple of days away from regular clinics and turning entire hospitals back into monothemes, a plan implemented last year, but unknown how effective will be again this year. The data show that by the end of the week there will be very serious changes in the level of health reactions in all hospitals in the city.
