In recent months we have noted with regret the decision of the Emilia Romagna Region and the Province of Rimini not to correct the shot on what according to the Committee for the Oasis of Torriana and Montebello is a serious error: the reduction of two thirds of the Wildlife protection oasis, and area of ​​particular interest for the conservation of habitats and biodiversity of national and European importance. For this reason we have decided to relaunch with greater force all the possible initiatives useful to keep the attention on this territory that people want to protect, as certified by the more than a thousand signatures collected by the Committee between the end of 2019 and the first months of 2020. reduction of the Oasis to allow wild boar hunting with the hunted method has seriously altered the balance of this delicate ecosystem. The decision taken, which was necessary according to the institutions to limit the number of ungulates, unfortunately produced the opposite effect. The wild boars hunted by dogs in the no longer protected territory flee and invade the surrounding areas, with even more negative effects on agricultural areas and on the safety of the roads closest to the “hunted” territory. The requests we have made in recent years to the Region and the Province, underlined in this regard also by an opinion of ISPRA (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), have been of no avail, so that the most effective techniques for controlling wild boars were adopted and respectful of the environment as an indicator by ISPRA in several of its documents, which can also be downloaded online, and which we repeat again:
– Selection hunting with qualified personnel for the purpose
– Liberalization of the number of animals to be collected with fixed stalking
– Restoration of the use of mobile manhole covers by local farmers
– prevent the hunt because it favors an increase of wild boars.
Unfortunately, there is so much difference from declared wills to actual behaviors. The abandonment of the management of the Oasis from the early 2000s is proof of this. The battle carried out in recent years by the Committee is a battle of civilization and for this reason we have decided to relaunch our initiative with a more effective reorganization for this purpose. We have therefore decided to transform the Committee for the title of the Torriana and Montebello Oasis into a non-profit social promotion association (APS), with the aim of protecting and enhancing the environmental, social, cultural, economic and landscape identity. in the territorial context of the old Oasis and the two valleys, Valmarecchia and Valle dell’Uso, through promotional initiatives, educational activities, purpose projects, seminars, conferences and any other activity aimed at the objective. The association will be called “OaSì – Insieme per le Valli” and will be officially presented after the formal creation of the bureaucratic formalities. The first initiative will aim to raise public awareness on the issues described and collect other adhesions. We are there and we do not furnish ourselves.
