Ten Santa Maria emergency surgical team leaders resign
Ten heads of the emergency general surgery team at the Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon, will be resigned as a group this Wednesday. They have already requested an urgent meeting from the clinical management.
The surgical emergency situation at the Centro Hospitalar Universitário Lisboa Norte (CHULN) “has been degrading in recent years” and, more recently, worsened by the “taking of a position by hospital assistants in the department who refuse to go beyond, in the current working conditions , more than the overtime considered in the law”.
In the resignation, sent to the clinical director of the Lisbon North University Hospital Center (CHULN), to which JN had access, the team leaders said that they “sympathize” with the hospital assistants and that “the emergency scale of general surgery it is not feasible according to the regulations for the constitution of emergency teams”.
The secretary general of the Independent Union of Physicians, Jorge Roque da Cunha, says that the team, all the team leaders of this emergency service, are “fed up with the promises of the clinical director” and that they are still “as conditions for work, hiring, remuneration of the managers themselves, lack of investment in material, a general inability to secure those who are”.
The JN changes the administration of CHULN and awaits responses.
