Russia opened its guest of honor stand at the Vienna Book Fair – Culture
VIENNA, November 10. / TASS /. The Russian literary stand was inaugurated on Wednesday to mark the start of the Buch Wien International Book Fair. Russia became the first guest of honor in the history of this Austrian book salon as part of the Year of Literature and Theater of the two countries.
Russian exposition in the framework of the exhibition “Russia visiting Buch Wien. The presentation presents Russian classics and contemporary authors, works for children, books about history, geography, culture of Russia.
As the Russian ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lyubinsky noted: “Russia is the first to receive an invitation to such a prestigious Vienna book forum with the status of a guest of honor. At the same time, it is becoming a landmark event of this magnitude within the framework of the Russian-Austrian Year of Literature and Theater. “
Lyubinsky, said that the program of participation in the Vienna Book Fair includes about 30 events around the world of Russian literature: meetings and thematic discussions with well-known domestic critics and experts, presentations of new books and new translations. The ambassador is accused that “the Vienna Book Fair 2021 will become a memorable page in the chronicle of the newest Russian-Austrian relations.”
The ambassador also drew attention to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-1881). On November 11, on this occasion, a gala evening “Fyodor Dostoevsky – a seismograph of modern times” will be organized at the Austrian National Library.
As the organizers of the book salon noted, writers Yevgeny Vodolazkin, Guzel Yakhina, Andrei Gelasimov, Viktor Remizov, Alisa Ganieva, Maxim Osipov, Olga Gromova will present their new books, published in translation into German, the poet Sergei Biryukov, working in the genre of sound poetry, will read his poems in Russian and German, poet and translator Maxim Amelin will answer the question “In how many languages are books written in Russia?”
The Vienna Book Fair runs until 14 November. The entrance to it is available only for vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19.
