Portable ultrasound system donated to the Pediatric Surgery Department
A gift to the Santa Chiara hospital from the voluntary association
PISA. A latest generation portable ultrasound system for the improvement and rapid diagnosis at the service of the little ones. This is the equipment donated to the Pediatric General Surgery of the Santa Chiara hospital in Pisa, precisely to support the development of this department within the local healthcare offer. The donation bears the signature of “Italy & Child Odv”, an association for the promotion of the health of children and adolescents. A body founded in 2019 by the lawyer Maria Chiara Zippel and aimed at supporting the expansion of the pediatric surgery department in the shadow of the Tower. The handover ceremony took place inside building number 15 of the Santa Chiara hospital, in the presence, among others, of Maria Chiara Zippel herself, professor Claudio Spinelli, Head of Pediatric Surgery, of Silvia Briani, general manager of the Pisan university hospital and the president of the regional council Antonio Mazzeo.
«Volunteer organizations – said Silvia Briani – are essential interlocutors for us, but generally for the health system because they make a contribution in terms of presence, support and relationship, in addition to the donation of equipment. This is a beautiful gesture, very important for this still small structure, but it is our goal to make it grow with a program of recruiting additional professionals who can support Professor Spinelli in their work ».
Words of praise for the donation were also expressed by Antonio Mazzeo. «Today knowing that thanks to the contribution of an active citizenship – said the president of the regional council – better answers can be given to citizens is very nice. Therefore, I would like to thank the “Italy & Child Odv” association, but also the many professionals who work in our healthcare sector, in a sector, Pediatric General Surgery, which is growing thanks to the professionalism and quality of those who every day work at the service of the little ones. We are there and as far as possible we will make all the investments to make this department that the Pisans have always expected and are seeing develop even stronger, bigger and more structured ».
The “Italy & Child Odv” association, which has been operating for a couple of years, also deals with after-school aid for children hospitalized at Santa Chiara.
