On the 7th of June, the constitution of the nucleus of the SCP in Madeira was made official with Sporting Clube de Portugal (SCP).

This nucleus intends to unite all the Sporting members of RAM, promoting the ‘glory’ and the ‘devotion’ of this club, which already has 115 years of history.

The genesis of this nucleus has its origins in the group of ‘Leões da Madeira’ sympathizers, which was formed and promoted for many years by Agostinho da Conceição Rodrigues and João Marques de Freitas.

The following Madeiran Sporting members were elected as the first managing bodies of the nucleus: Manuel Baeta Castro (president of the General Assembly), José Bettencourt da Câmara (president of the board), Artur Costa, Duarte Agrela, João Casanova de Almeida, Miguel Rodrigues and Miguel Tropa (director members) and João Santos (chairman of the Supervisory Board).

A fundraising campaign for core founding members is currently underway throughout RAM.

On the 20th of November, at the restaurant ‘Gazela’, in Porto Santo, another meeting of Sporting residents will take place.

In addition to the social gatherings, the nucleus also intends to regularly organize a series of lectures with Sporting individuals for members and future members, as well as monitoring football matches and other forms in various places in RAM and in Lisbon.

The official inauguration of the headquarters of the nucleus, which is located at Rua da Sé, will be chaired by Rogério Alves, president of the General Assembly of Sporting Clube de Portugal, on December 4th, at 11 am. This is followed by a lunch at the restaurant ‘O Lagar’, in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, at 12:30 pm, where more than 300 Madeiran Sporting people are expected to attend.
