Genoa, in San Siro di Struppa a shared oasis becomes a laboratory of sustainable practices
Transforming a green area into a container for activities and projects at the service of the community. This is the goal with which the Municipality IV Media Val Bisagno has Collaboration agreement businesses, associations and schools in the area, which is a laboratory of good sustainability practices.
The identified area, of 6 thousand square meters, it is found at San Siro di Struppa, accessible from via Araone.
The partners who have signed the Pact aimed at “regenerating” it are currently seven, each ready to invest resources and skills. This is the environmental association TrashTeam, made up of young volunteers engaged in environmental protection activities, in particular the cleaning of rivers, will offer workshops on the cultivation of fruit trees, recovering ancient varieties now forgotten. The association Api Genoa, which has moved its urban apiary to the area and will offer meetings and workshops on the knowledge of bees for students and citizens. There Federation for the protection and enhancement of the historic Valbisagno aqueduct instead, it aims to build a welcome point on the area for the many classes and tourists who visit the aqueduct, creating over time also a refreshment point and a picnic area. L’Marsano Agricultural Institute, whose headquarters is a few steps from the oasis, will use it to create educational gardens to manage students from afar, activating workshops aimed at schools and citizens. Coop Liguria will donate a thousand trees to reforest the area, as part of the national project “Urban Oasis”. Amiu Genoa, in collaboration with the Department of the Environment of the Municipality of Genoa, will give continuity to what has already been achieved through the European project “Force”, will make available its skills to identify further financing methods and will ensure its commitment to strengthen the initiatives of environmental and sustainability education linked to the green area of San Siro di Struppa. In the end, Confservizi will collaborate on the project, seeking further partnerships aimed at finding resources to enrich and constantly improve it.
The area intended to house the oasis has currently been cleared of the scrub that had almost completely covered it and is ready to welcome the trees that will be planted by Coop Liguria: the first, a whole, to be planted immediately, the others next Spring.
«This project – explains the president of the Municipality Roberto D’Avolio – aims to offer the district a participatory space, to sensitize citizens on the very current issue of sustainability, through concrete actions of environmental education. This is the first step in a process that is completed in a couple of years, because we still have to find all the resources needed to finance the project, but we are confident in the networking that we are building with local associations, which are showing a great desire to get involved and to be sure of also having the support of the citizens ».
