From 2022, there could be a ban on truck transit in the whole of Prague 6
Representatives of the town hall are now discussing this with, among others, the Prague City Hall and the Technical Administration of Roads (TSK). According to Deputy Mayor for Transport Adam Scheinherr (Prague Sobě), the draft restriction should be ready by the end of the year, after which it will take some time to approve it.
“We want to prepare a really comprehensive solution that will divert freight transport outside Prague 6 and at the same time be enforceable,” said Jiří Lála (ODS), Deputy Mayor of Prague 6 for Transport.
The ban on truck transit traffic through Prague 6 could apply from 2022, as the Deputy Mayor of Prague 6 added. Road signs are now being addressed and the monitoring of the new rules by truck drivers should be identified.
Scheinherr confirmed that restrictions are being created at the municipality, saying that trucks should not travel through Prague 6, but through the Prague ring road. However, according to him, the ban will not apply from the new year. “Comments from the police, the road administration and the like are still pending. At the end of the year, we could have a final solution, which we will then submit to the office, where it takes at least two months before it is allowed, “he explained. Similar transport measures are not approved by local authorities, but by state administrations, ie road authorities.
According to Lála, Prague 6 is suffering from the non-completion of the Prague ring road, which would divert transit freight traffic outside the center of the sixth district. Trucks now drive through densely populated areas daily. On the traffic situation of the town hall management repeatedly.
