Bird madness in Zurich: 165 budgies discovered in an apartment
When an apartment was cleared, the Zurich Animal Rescue Service found a total of 165 budgies in one apartment.
Zurich, Switzerland) – Unusual sight for that Zürcher Animal rescue service: When the apartment is vacated, the animal rights activists a total of 165 budgies discovered in an apartment. The owner collected the animals, but had since passed away.
As the animal rescue service of the Nonne canton police reports, the animal rescue operation started at the end of October.
The 81 adult animals are captured and brought to an animal shelter. Since they found themselves in a critical state of health, according to the animal welfare association, four budgies are euthanized.
Since the clearance operation meant stress for the animals, half of the animals were picked up from one and the other half from the budgies on the following day. 84 of the total of 165 birds finally came to an animal orphanage and a bird park run by the Zurich animal welfare organization.

Animal hoarding – also known as animal hoarding – is often very dangerous for the animals. They are then no longer cared for in a species-appropriate manner and, among other things, they lack water, hygiene or veterinary care.
“Such cases often only become known when the owners die or the people in the neighborhood notice something unusual,” the animal rescue service said in its own Press release.
