At the conference in Prague, scientists will present good examples in biodiversity protection
The conference is being held for the sixth time this year, ending on November 12. Some of the contributions will be online.
For example, Elmar Fiening from the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) will speak at the conference. He will talk about the role of zoos in protecting biodiversity. Daniel Ingram from the British University of Stirling will describe the problem of hunting, eating and trading meat from the forests. For example, virologist Jiří Černý will take part in the conference with a lecture on viruses in a globalized world.
“I want to bring together not only scientists, but also the government sector, the business sector and non-profit organizations. This also means a practical conservationist, “Matyáš Adam, the conference coordinator, told ČTK. “We do not expect who will sign up for us, but we invite selected speakers, with whom we already work ideally somewhere abroad. Whether it’s Canada, Africa or Southeast Asia, “he added. According to this year’s coordinator, the covid-19 pandemic and its effects are also reflected.
The aim of the event is to show the best examples in nature protection, research into what threatens nature, as well as future necessary steps and perspectives of experts. The program covers both climate and legislative issues, as well as wildlife trade and working with local communities in different countries.
The conference includes an accompanying program. On Wednesday and Thursday, representatives of domestic conservation associations will present their activities at the stands on the CULS campus. A fashion show of sustainable fashion open to the public is produced on Thursday.
The conference is organized by the Czech Coalition for the Protection of Biodiversity and the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague with the support of zoos in Liberec, Olomouc, Ostrava, Prague and the Prague Botanical Garden.
