What are the solutions to the health crisis in Bulgaria
Bulgaria is once again going to the polls at the peak of the strongest covid wave to date – with overcrowded hospitals, weekly black records of disease victims, more than 110,000 sick and tens of thousands more quarantined and still critically low in vaccinations. However, our country is trying to put an end to this severe crisis with frankly liberal measures: without a lockdown, but with green certificates, for the issuance of which particularly democratic rules have been written in violation of the requirements in other European countries. Today, a few days before the elections, another controversial discount was made, with which the antibody tests will also be recognized for issuing a green certificate, which is not a practice anywhere in the EU.
However, almost all political parties campaigned against the certificates. When asked by Capital at the end of last month, all formations sharply criticized them, without offering any alternatives. Their official “motives” are that they were introduced too quickly and without time to prepare businesses and citizens, that they are discriminatory and will not work. However, the real motives are different – according to the expertise, the real situation with the epidemic in the country requires much more severe measures, but the word “lockdown” is a guarantee to repel voters. In public appearances, some parties also blamed the cabinet for the low air coverage, while technical representatives found they shared anti-wax postulates.
We have now once again invited the political forces to share their views on green certificates, vaccination and possible solutions to the severe health crisis that is currently at stake. Only three of the parties answered Capital’s questions, and below are their positions. On Wednesday, expect a brief vision of the parties on the problems of the judiciary, and what are their views on public finances in 2022 can be read here.
