Toulouse Montpellier axis: SNCF network is stepping into the ring
The network manager will conduct four “punch” operations between Toulouse and Montpellier over the weekend of November 11.
SNCF Réseau is continuing in 2021 a major infrastructure renewal and modernization program with the aim of maintaining and developing the level of performance of the railway lines. Four sectors are concerned: At Agde, Frontignan, Escalquens and at Toulouse-Matabiau station.
Focus on the work
In Frontignan
Major works are scheduled at Frontignan to replace the railway bridge. Designed in 1910, this structure allows the Montpellier-Sète line to span the Canal du Rhône à Sète and two roads. Its renovation provides for the replacement of the 6 structures that make it up, an operation which will require the interruption of rail traffic for more than 3 days to remove the old bridge and install the new structure. Initially scheduled for March-April 2020, this project was postponed due to the health crisis.
In Agde
The level crossing 288 in Agde is located near the station, at the crossroads of the departmental road n ° 13 and the dependent railway line from Montpellier to Narbonne. The operation consists of removing the level crossing by creating a railway bridge which will allow the road to pass under the railway line by June 2023. During the November 11 bridge, a watertight enclosure will be built at the level of the railway tracks. which requires the establishment of the elements of the infrastructure.
In Escalquens
The level crossing n ° 196 d’Escalquens is located at the intersection of the departmental road n ° 79 and the dependent railway line Toulouse to Narbonne. The operation consists of removing the level crossing by diverting the RD79 via a road point which will pass over the railway line, approximately 100 meters north of the current level crossing. The commissioning of the road installations is scheduled for July 2022.
At Toulouse-Matabiau station
A major maintenance project is scheduled at Toulouse-Matabiau station: the replacement of 15 switch systems and the renewal of track components. This operation aims to replace the component following natural wear in order to guarantee the safety and reliability of rail traffic.
In total, these operations represent an investment of € 39.3 million invested by SNCF Réseau, the State within the framework of the France Relance plan and by the region within the context of the contracts of the State Regions plan (CPER). 250 SNCF Réseau agents and companies will be mobilized
