Toulouse: find out how many cyclists pass each day near the Matabiau station, counted by the Totem of the metropolis
Four bicycle counting totems are now active, in Toulouse, Blagnac, Colomiers and Cornebarrieu. The one on Boulevard Bonrepos, opposite the Matabiau station, recorded the most passages. Up to 3,400 cyclists per day, end of September 2021.
Toulouse Métropole has installed four automatic bicycle counters, in Toulouse opposite the Matabiau station, in Blagnac avenue Latécoère, in Colomiers avenue Yves Brunaud, and in Cornebarrieu, route de Toulouse. They are all active. The last ones have been activated November 4, in Colomiers and Cornebarrieu. The one in Blagnac has been active since October 21. It recorded a peak at 791 cyclists on Monday, November 8. More than those of Colomiers and Cornebarrieu, which currently peak at around 230 and 150 cyclists, but less than that of Toulouse. The Boulevard Bonrepos totem pole recorded a record of 3,396 bikes on Tuesday, September 28.
That’s it, I’m finally connected !!
As expected, I was already counting the vélotafeurs but not for a long time because only 1600 since the beginning of the year. @Ecocounter can register me now? pic.twitter.com/lWDtp0gSlm– Airbus Totem (@TotemAirbus) November 8, 2021
These counters record each passage of a cyclist on the nearby cycle path, thanks to sensors placed in the roadway. These meters, deployed for several years in Paris, notably in Strabsourg or Lyon, are intended to promote cycling. They display in real time to cyclists, and to other users, how many bikes have passed during the day, and since the start of the calendar year, or since the start of their entry into service.
The number of cyclists decreases with the onset of cool and rainy weather
Connected in January 2021, the Totem at Matabiau station in Toulouse, peaked at 1,700 cyclists per day. Normal, in the middle of winter, and in a period marked by alternations between confinement and teleworking. Reactivated in June 2021, it quickly recorded more than 3,000 cyclist passages every day. Until its record at the end of September, at 3,396 cyclists. Its rise should continue, even if the cool and rainy weather that has set in for a few days, does not encourage crowds on the cycle paths. Monday, November 8, the totem pole of Matabiau recorded 2,654 cyclists. All the same.
