The Catholic University of Lyon trains as close as possible to the territories
On the heights of Annecy (Haute-Savoie), the establishment is located just at the foot of the Semnoz forest: “Students can explore and exploit all its riches! “, we hope in the management of the new site called “Alpes-Europe”, where the final adjustments are made before the inauguration. Open at the start of the 2020 school year but installed until August in the neighboring premises of the University of Savoie – Mont-Blanc, this “delocalized” campus of the Catholic University of Lyon (UCLy) now welcomes 215 registered students. in law and management courses, more than 80 professors are already associated.
→ MAINTENANCE. At the “Catho” in Lyon, a personalized support strategy
In gestation for several years, the expansion of the “Catho” has just been completed at the other end of the region, in Puy-en-Velay (Haute-Loire), where a dozen young Altiligériens are taking a new Bachelor. tourism, launched in September. For Father Olivier Artus, rector of UCLy, it is not so much a question of reinforcing the number of students, estimated at 8,009 students at the start of the academic year – for a growth of 6.3% – but of “Keeping the promise of increasingly personalized support and offering quality education to as many young people as possible”, be they far from large urban areas and the capital of their region.
A “human-scale” approach
On the Annecy campus, where 74% of students come from the department, we want to work with the local economic fabric. “During training as for professional prospects”, explains the director Aurélien Éminet, who insists on the themes combining the values of UCLy with the specificities of the territory, such as integral ecology or the industry sector, and the lessons anchored in the image of this dedicated course “To the history of the Savoy countries”.
At the crossroads of the Swiss and Italian borders, this project does not prevent international openness: while nearly a third of the courses are taught in English, the site offers a specialization in cross-border affairs and has invested in a digital equipment making it possible to “ feed the link “ with the many exchange students and speakers from abroad.
Installed in the premises of the Hôtel-Dieu, the higher school of tourism of Puy-en-Velay, it, was conceived in an approach which wants to be ” human “, in substance as well as in form. While its program, devised in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is geared towards activities “Benevolent and eco-responsible”, the new establishment should above all make it possible to nourish the fragile university offer of the altiligérien basin and facilitate the project of students of modest condition, thanks to a “Professional path” – alternately, the tuition fees are paid by the company.
These two antennas ” at Human scale “ however, to quickly gain scale: the Haute-Loire site is counting on a promotion of 25 young people from next year, when Annecy should gradually expand its offer to accommodate around a thousand students by 2025.
