That was not to be expected – Benjamin Haidacher
Benjamin Haidacher (ÖAV Kufstein) is one of the climbers in 2021. After a promising year in which the 17-year-old has made an incredible development, the Tyrolean nun has to digest a small setback at the end of the year.
At the training camp in Arco, which is already a tradition at the end of the season, Benjamin Haidacher injured his knee and was forced to take a break.
I hurt my meniscus on the rock in Arco. We then had an MRI done very quickly last week. At the meeting, we stayed with the doctor so that we check the tear again after three weeks and then make a decision. It doesn’t help now anyway
explains Haidacher, who has already turned his gaze forward again.
Youth European Championship and Home World Cup as the season highlight
Julian Wimmer (ÖAV Wilder Kaiser) lives in a shared apartment and can look back on the past season with great pride. The hard training under the direction of his two coaches Fabian Leu and Hannes Brunner was definitely worth it. “I am very satisfied with the year 2021. At the beginning I wasn’t in the national team at all, then I qualified for the European Youth Championship in Perm through the selections and climbed up there. That was a great step for me that I would not have expected at the time. It was then unbelievable when I found out from Katha (note: Saurwein) that I was allowed to compete in the Home World Cup in Innsbruck, ”said the 17-year-old looking back on a great year in which he took two third places in the European Youth Cups and was able to achieve fourth place in the lead at the European Youth Championships.
Power place a lot brings motivation
Due to an injury (torn growth joint in his finger), Haidacher had to take a long break in the U16, but gained a lot during the lockdown and worked hard on himself day after day. “I trained a lot on the fingerboard and did specific strength exercises. At that time I was also very much on the rocks in my favorite area of Schleierwasserfall and I climbed a lot of lead. That brought me a lot, made me really fit and it became more and more clear that. There he set himself two goals with the routes Gambit (8c +) and White Rose (9a), which he will have over the next two years want to achieve.
The goals are clearly defined
In his first real international season, Haidacher was able to gather a lot of valuable knowledge for himself, which not only helped him climb technically, but also personally. With the already mentioned European Youth Championship and the Home World Cup in Innsbruck, the Tyrolean, who visits the Sport-BORG in Innsbruck, had two highlights for himself. “I had my best phase of the season in Perm and felt really good there. At the men’s ÖSTM, I climbed into the lead in the final, which was very special. I watched closely how Jakob (note: Schubert), for example, is preparing for the competition in the iso zone. As a young athlete, you can take a lot with you. We were given the prospect of being able to train with the adults on one day in the next season – that would be very valuable for all of us, ”said Haidacher, who will again be at the forefront in the European Cups next year and the next step will be his development want to put. In addition, it should work with the qualification for the youth world championship in the USA. The Tyrolean lets everything else come on and looks forward to the challenges ahead on his chosen path.
