The “Salzburg gurgelt” website is working again – with restrictions that slow down the system. The company Novogenia, which operates the portal on behalf of the State of Salzburg, wants to take precautions to be protected against hackers and new cyber attacks.
Technicians have added another website upstream of the online registration for the test. If you want to register, you WILL be put on hold and currently have to wait about 30 minutes – until the website is updated and a definitive registration is possible. This is to ensure that the offer does not completely collapse again.
Because of attacks by hackers over the Internet, the processing page for free PCR tests was not available to many users on Monday. Unknown would have overloaded the laboratory’s server with requests.
Company wants to make website more resilient
It will now only take a few days to be safe from such attacks, said a spokesman for Novogenia. IT teams are busy “pushing back the current attack”. In the future, another online form will make the “Salzburg gurgelt” page secure and prevent the system from being overloaded. In addition to Salzburg’s CoV test network, the identical website in Lower Austria was also affected by the cyber attack. Personal data was not stolen in the attack, according to Novogenia. The evaluation of tests that have already been submitted is also not affected.
How high is the damage to the population?
Thousands of people have been waiting for their CoV test results for days because of the mishaps. Many need the corresponding certificates for their jobs – because of the new guidelines from politics. It is not yet known how great the damage is to the population, the labor market and the economy.
No report to the police so far
Hans Wolfgruber from the Salzburg State Police Command says that the authorities have not yet received any reports. It will probably still be determined internally at the company concerned. If there have been hacker attacks, they would be suspected crimes. The public prosecutor’s office and police would only act after a corresponding report.
CoV requirements: Chamber of Labor demands more involvement
Because the PCR tests were not evaluated in time, the phones at the Salzburg Chamber of Labor (AK) are also getting hot. Many workers and employees could not go to work because of missing test results, says AK President Peter Eder. Affected people too.
