Prague 5: At Anděl you will park your bikes in new bicycle stands
10.11.2021 8:38 | Press Release
New bicycle stands have sprung up right in the pedestrian zone in the center of the fifth city district on Anděl. Their installation took two years.
“I am pleased that after two years of efforts, I have succeeded in enforcing this plan. Bikes do not hinder pedestrians or cars, and they also help cyclists cultivate public space, ”says Jan Panenka, Chairman of the Prague 5 Transport Committee.
Bicycle parking on the road, the so-called bicycle parking, is quite common in many European cities. In Prague, this is more of an exception.
“There are mostly concerns about restrictions on motor vehicle traffic. Cycling stands, on the other hand, tend to help. For example, by preventing unwanted car parking in critical places where a parked car is a safety issue. For example, in front of pedestrian crossings and the like, “adds Jan Panenka.
In the Czech Republic, only color-marked parking spaces predominate for the parking of bicycles on the road. However, they do not allow the bike to be locked and the car drivers often ignore it.
