Let us keep order
The President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, responds to the criticisms of the media NGOs and of the political opponents regarding the transfer of the “Teleradio-Moldova” Company under parliamentary control. The head of the Legislature says that by transferring the public television and radio from the subordination of the Audiovisual Council to that of the Parliament, it is desired to make this institution responsible and to bring its activity “in the riverbed of normality”, notes IPN.
Igor Grosu explains the need to make public television and radio subordinate to the Parliament through the government’s desire to make the managers of state institutions responsible for acting in the interest of the citizen. The reaction comes after the representatives of the DA Platform accused the government that by passing “Teleradio-Moldova” under parliamentary control, PAS does nothing but revive the mechanism of political control over the institutions.
“Our interest is to have a public television, paid for with the taxpayer’s money, which does its job. The management of this television was exploited by the two governments, the first was that of Plahotniuc and later Dodon. We do not need the services of an obedient leadership, this institution must be brought to normal. The Audiovisual Council, which is an arbiter on the market, cannot say that it evaluates the others, but they are subordinated to a television “, said Igor Grosu during the” Prime Time “show on PrimeTV.
Igor Grosu also says that ensuring parliamentary control over public television and radio is a European experience and offers the possibility for all parties in the Legislature to report violations committed by a media institution paid for with public money.
“It is also the model in Romania. The National Television to be evaluated from the Parliament, by the parliamentary commission, is also a tribune of the Parliament where any deputy, from the government or the opposition, can say that he observes a biased attitude towards some or others. But until proven otherwise, let us put things in order there. What did I see on National Television? I saw biased politics, when the elections in Chisinau were canceled, they broadcast symphonic music, they advertised hard on Dodon for our money. We want to create a functional institution “, said Igor Grosu.
The law on amending the Code of Audiovisual Media Services was approved on Thursday, November 4, in the final reading, by the majority of PAS. The mandate of all members of the Supervisory and Development Council and of the General Manager of the Teleradio-Moldova Company ended the next day, after the decree promulgating the law, signed by President Maia Sandu, was published in the Official Gazette.
