Tuesday 16, Tuesday 23 and Tuesday 30 November at 6 pm; the occasion of enjoy an aperitif on one of the most beautiful terraces in Florence discovering something more than a few Florentine masterpieces.
These are conversations for all art lovers, but also for those who intend to discover more of all the wonders that surround us and to which we perhaps pass by without attention, but which actually concern many major masterpieces of Florentine art and beyond.
The conversations are designed both to be followed in a series of three, and to be enjoyed individually and will tell Florentine painting, sculpture and Mannerist architecture revealing the lesser known face of the late Florentine Renaissance seen from the top of the Rooftop of the VOA. The breathtaking view that can be enjoyed from the sixth floor of the Hotel Medici will in fact be the starting point for observing some of the wonders of the city and telling them in their lesser-known guise.
It will thus virtually pass from Vasari Corridor to the Medici Chapels, from the Laurentian Library to the works of Michelangelo in the New Sacristy of San Lorenzo, to the works of Pontormo and Rosso Fiorentino according to a completely new reading of Florence, under the eye of Mannerism.
A multifaceted and multifaceted period, an artistic current full of contradictions and diversity that has led to different definitions also by scholars who underline on the one hand the links with the Renaissance and the Baroque and the clear detachment from any artistic current we have seen from the other.
Between classic and anti-classical, that style that takes its name from the “beautiful manner” mentioned by Vasari, introduces new rules for the conception of space and the relationships between the figures and moves between “rule” and “license”, between analogy and contradiction , thus becoming the dark and lively side of the Renaissance and the first artistic current of the modern age at the same time.
To govern the art conversations on mannerism and to reveal the secrets of some well-known and lesser-known masterpieces of Florence will be Elena Santoni, art history teacher and tour leader. Elena has been dealing with artistic itineraries since 2016 and held the conference: “From Michelangelo to Caravaggio: a dialogue on art starting from the vision of great women of criticism” within the 2021 edition of the Festival “The legacy of women “.
