Women pay, men don’t: City of Cologne rejects unequal treatment
Cologne –
The city of Cologne responded to a request from the parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, CDU and Volt and rejected unequal treatment of women and men. Free urinals are an effective way to curb wild peeing. In this way, “personal misconduct in public” is even prevented in part.
This does not mean that women and men are treated differently. Only unisex toilets, i.e. public facilities for women and men, are chargeable. Unequal treatment only exists when urinating, which the Cologne City Council has accepted as a “regulatory measure” because urinals that are subject to a charge are not accepted and the problem of peeing in the wild cannot be eliminated.
The toilets for all chargeable offers cannot be implemented. Free urinals are just an additional offer.
Offering toilet facilities to women free of charge is not an option from a financial point of view. You need the income as part of the refinancing. Otherwise the public toilet facilities cannot be won if all facilities were free of charge.
