Toulouse. The plastic artist Patrick Pavan performs at “111 des Arts”
As part of the exhibition “111 des Arts” at the Hôtel-Dieu “, the visual artist gave himself yesterday to a performance in front of a conquered audience.
This Sunday, audio visual artist Patrick Pavan performed a performance in the walls of the Hôtel-Dieu chapel, on the occasion of the annual exhibition of the association “Les 111 des Arts”. A way for the artist to present his work and reveal his techniques to the public. Halfway between materialism and raw art, this self-taught mason’s son and grandson distinguishes himself by using non-academic raw materials (BA13, polystyrene, plaster, cement, etc.) and by fixing natural pigments, of Earth or varnish: “My desire to move away from classic tools associated with an approach aimed at rediscovering a raw expression of art processes. This choice to reject the usual of a revealed filiation” explains the artist. Known for his works on concrete or brick facades, the artist also uses more classic materials such as acrylic, gouache and charcoal: “I work with paintings like walls”, confides Patrick Pavan. Inspired by the technique of frescoes and cave art, the contemporary artist wishes to give his works an effect of relief engraving by superimposed layers of colored paints: “The idea is to superimpose sofas of paint and apply them as you go to give relief, ”adds the artist. Wood, paper prints, plywood … Under the curious and receptive eyes of the audience, Patrick Pavan shared his talent and unveiled his know-how by making a painting on wood, covered with filler and acrylic coating, then decorated with a polystyrene plate and successive layers of paint. All to reveal the silhouette of a bull with an engraving effect, faithful to its artistic style.
