Testing in schools in Prague: Classes in quarantine, some students had positive antigen tests
For example in the Antonín Čermák Elementary School in Prague 6, 13 out of 400 children had a positive antigen test on Monday. According to the school principal Petr Karvánek, however, PCR tests may show that children do not have the infection, because antigenic ones are not so reliable. He pointed out that 28 antigen tests had to be repeated at school because they were inconclusive.
Thanks to the support of the founder, schools in Prague 6 were tested by PCR tests last Monday. According to Karvánek, Antonín Čermák’s primary school was then confirmed the infection in five children, as a result of which five classes had to switch to distance learning in quarantine for about a week. At present, according to him, there are about six to eight students at home with covid-19 infection.
Five children from two classes had a positive antigen test at the Vratislavova Elementary School in Prague 2 on Monday. Most of the 325 students in the school were tested. “The little ones in primary school are not vaccinated at all and in the second grade it is about a fifth of what is vaccinated, “ said the school principal Jiří Trunda. According to him, two classes have been quarantined in recent weeks and there are currently two again.
Most of the students have already been vaccinated at the Nad Štolou Grammar School in Prague 7 or at the Budějovická Grammar School in Prague 4. About 250 out of 900 pupils were tested at the Nad Štolou Grammar School and one positive test was one, said school principal Renata Schejbalová. According to her, testing turned out similarly in the past, when, moreover, a more accurate PCR test did not confirm positivity. According to the director Zdeněk Bednářová, two students passed a positive test at the Budějovická Grammar School. There are about 280 pupils out of 650 unvaccinated in the school, and according to her, 40 vaccinated students who all passed negative tests voluntarily joined the testing.
According to Bednářová, the infection at the grammar school has already occurred in recent weeks, but no entire class has yet been quarantined. “We always quarantined only a few children from the class, the most were 11, so we did not have to go to distance education,“She said. According to her, most of the class was always vaccinated so that she could go to school. Unvaccinated quarantines or the sick were then educated at a distance.
A positive test was also issued on Monday by two students from the Masaryk Secondary School of Chemistry in Prague 1. According to director Jiří Zajíček, about a third of the 380 students are unvaccinated.
