Salzburg: The situation in hospitals is coming to a head
16 of the currently 20 available intensive care beds are occupied, said clinic spokesman Wolfgang Fürweger to the APA. In the entire state, 25 intensive care beds are now occupied, the capacity could be increased to a maximum of 50, according to Franz Wieser, spokesman for the state.
Escalation level F in state clinics
In the state clinics, escalation level F currently applies, emphasized Fürweger. In this, the number of intensive care beds is limited to 20, four of which are currently free. The spokesman also corrects an online report by the newspaper “Heute”, according to which only two intensive care beds would be free for corona cases in the state of Salzburg as of Monday. Fürweger also emphasized that the intensive care places could be increased even further, but at the expense of postponed treatments, for example in orthopedics.
155 corona sufferers in Salzburg’s hospitals
A total of 155 corona patients were already receiving hospital treatment in the state of Salzburg on Monday, 25 of them in an intensive care unit. According to Wieser, a maximum of 50 intensive care beds can be provided in the state. The four free beds at the SALK are currently “on reserve”, but the medical staff is discussing the situation on a daily basis. Additional beds would only be activated as required, since this would be at the expense of other areas of the hospital.
