Perfect FaZe, poor NA – SiegeGG
The first day of Sweden Major contained many blowouts, some interesting results and one of North America’s worst days in recent history. Here are the main takeaways from the first day of action on “Rainbow Six”‘s biggest stage.
Winner: FaZe clan
FaZe Clan is the only team to complete a perfect day in the history of the “Rainbow Six Siege” Major. They did not lose a round in two matches for a total round record of 14-0. It still does not feel like a real result, and is certainly not replicable during the course of the tournament, but is definitely a good start for one of the big favorites.
Gabriel “LaXInG” Mirelez was the only player to have a positive death-to-death relationship against FaZe on the day. Three of the ten players they played against did not kill a single one. Two others published a single death. If you played against FaZe Clan on Monday, it was statistically just as likely that you lost a single guy or no kills as it was that you just posted a more common negative stat line, such as 4-7 or 5-7.
Winner: DWG Kia
Group D is the “death group” because DWG Kia is in it, apparently. Once again, the Korean side exceeded most analysts’ expectations in today’s first match with a victory over Team Empire. There were some who predicted that DWG would win, but what most did not predict is how they won: a surprising 7-3 victory. The Mexico major was not a stroke of luck. This list is for real.
Loser: North America as a region
It’s no secret: North American law underperforms, by considerable margins, for a number of reasons.
Oxygen Esports are formally excused from this story: They are shorthand, as Davide “FoxA” Bucci tested positive for COVID-19 before the event and was unable to attend. Evan “Yoggah” Nelson and Leo “Kyno” Figueiredo play from their hotel rooms. Their situation is unenviable.
Space station is also somewhat excused. An overtime loss to a good FURIA team is not necessarily a terrible result, and they defeated Team Empire in NA’s only win of the day. Alec Fultz and Nathanial “Rampy” Duvall each drew a connection that will appear at the highlights of their careers.
But… it is impossible to ignore the rest of the region, or the miserable 1-7 overall record of the day. To ignore this would be to deny observable reality. DarkZero fought, Soniqs fought, they are both -10 in total number of rounds in the course of just two games.
The phrase “it’s a long tournament” only applies to the first match of the tournament where there are only six matches in the group stage. At present, 33 percent of the group game is complete. The possibilities diminish, and if DarkZero and Soniqs do not come up with something, quickly, they will find themselves mathematically eliminated on Tuesday.
Today’s statistics
José “Bullet1” Victor dies only twice
FaZe Clan’s dominant performance was marked by Bullet1’s fantastic individual performance. He did not die against Oxygen, and posted 12 kills. He counted seven against the Chiefs, with only two deaths for his name. Bullet1 also leads the tournament in the SiegeGG Rating with 1.83, only another player posted above 1.80: his teammate, Jaime “Cyber” Ramos.
Prano cut 3.5 seedlings per map
Rogue had a couple of comeback victories during the day and are currently controlling the fate of their own group. Kevin “Prano” Pranowitz plant statistics tell part of their story. Apparently Rogue was able to get the defuser down, which is normally an indicator that you are doing something right. While Rogue do not seem to feel they had a good day, winnings are winnings, and when you are in a major you take winnings where you can get them.
Day two matches to watch
Spacestation Gaming Vs. DWG Kia
DWG is hot, and Spacestation seems to be playing a lot of close games lately. Can the North Americans lock the skilled Korean side, or will the APAC team post a potential playoff qualifier victory?
BDS Esport vs Ninjas in Pajamas
NiP looks like they’re back in SI form. BDS also seems strong. You do not want to miss the first time these titans will face in the group stage.
SANDBOX Gaming vs Team Vitality
Based on current results, this rematch can cement the winner as second place in the group. Each team must finish strong, but the result of the match will be a good indicator of how day three in group B will end.
