How good is Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez?
DAZN Boxing Show’s hosts were impressed by Canelo’s control.
The DAZN Boxing Show discussed Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s skills after he became the undisputed super middleweight champion this weekend.
Canelo knocked out Caleb Plant in the 11th round on Saturday night in Las Vegas when he added the IBF belt to his WBA, WBC and WBO championships.
The 31-year-old Mexican seemed to be fighting within himself for much of the fight before stepping up in the later rounds to make things stop.
Akin ‘Ak’ Reyes and Barak Bess discussed the extent of his ability on the DAZN Boxing Show.
“The Canelo was special. Canelo proved once again in his 60th match how special he really is,” Barak began.
“I think we can now stop saying that he has problems with boxers. Canelo may have had problems with boxers in 2013. Floyd [Mayweather] is Floyd, you know, but if you want to talk about [Erislandy] Lara, yes, he’s a different fighter than when he fought Lara. He’s another beast. “
He then explained how Canelo had kept things tight without putting in more than significant efforts.
“Let me just tell you how good Canelo really is. He barely threw a stick. And that whole fight, he landed 15 shots but he barely threw shots in that fight,” he said.
“Now there were three rounds where he did not even throw a jab. Did not land a shot – he did not even try to throw a shot in all three rounds of rounds one, three and five, he could land more power shots than Caleb Plant. It shows Canelo’s skill level. He knows how to get in. He knows how to cut the ring. He knows how to block when he gets in, slips when he gets in and is even inside, lands body shots and slips from a skilled and fast boxers, Canelo is so good. “
Ak agreed and said: “He does it because he can, because he knows how to get the right distance without having to throw a stick every time. He does not just go in with his head straight up. He slips, catches. And, you know, he’s doing what he needs to do to get close to Caleb Plant. ”
