Carnival prelude Cologne: Stadtwerk 2G rule on 11.11 also in gastronomy | Regional
Cologne – Despite the exploding corona numbers in Cologne, the kick-off season should take place on Thursday. But only those who have recovered or have been vaccinated (2G rule) are allowed to the full parties and in the catering trade. The city of Cologne applied for this to the state of North Rhine-Westphalia – and received the green light.
A spokeswoman for the State Ministry of Health said on Monday: “Municipalities can, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, order 2G rules if it is deemed appropriate.”
The Cologne approach is the result of a special meeting of the city’s crisis team on Monday morning. Accordingly, the municipality will die the rules due to the rising corona numbers for the carnival start on 11.11. tighten again.
In the cordoned off areas of the old town and in the Kwartier Latäng, “3Gplus” (vaccinated, recovered or tested by PCR test) should no longer apply on Thursday, but 2G (only vaccinated and recovered people). A city spokesman said that 2G should also be binding for all hall events and in the pubs.
Carnival celebrations in public spaces are therefore only open to vaccinated and convalescent people. Normal restaurants, in which, for example, Martin’s goose dinner would take place, are excluded from this, where you can still get admission with a test.
“But if a catering establishment IS cleared – tables away and there is then a carnival party – then 2G should apply,” said the city spokesman.
Cologne is counting on the backing of the country, and the men will die on Monday. “The Ministry of Health supports the city of Cologne in its endeavors to enable the traditional opening of the carnival, but to react to the significantly increased risk of infection and the situation in the hospitals with increased protective measures,” said the Ministry as a justification.
There are currently no further applications from other cities.
