Portugal makes history by winning in Germany – Handball
Portugal celebrated Handball Day in the best possible way, celebrated this Sunday at the packed PSD Bank Dome, in Dusseldorf, with an unprecedented triumph (32-30) against Germany, no third preparation game for the training period that the team from the quinas completed, having in view of the European’2022. According to the German website, Handebol-Mundo, this is the first victory of Portugal against Germany, since at least 2007. The last victory (21-19) of Portugal against Germany data from 1996.
After the two games in Luxembourg, with victory (39-21) against the hosts and defeat (28-30) against the same Germans, the Heroes of the Sea achieved a historic triumph, which opens up good prospects for the competition that takes place between 13 and January 30 in Hungary and Slovakia.
Portugal took the lead in the game from 6 minutes (3-1), but Germany reacted and turned the result (5-3) at 9.
From then on, Germany led until the 25th minute, reaching the 3 goals advantage, but always harassed by the corners, which recovered (17-17) until the break and then moved forward with a partial of 9 -1.
With Portugal winning (27-26), goalkeeper Manuel Gaspar made great saves, frustrating the German draw, while Miguel Alves increased the advantage of 7 meters (28-26, in the 57th minute).
In an exciting final, after draws (29-29 and 30-30), Miguel Alves (7 goals, 6 of 7 meters with 100% efficiency and best scorer of the match) and Diogo Branquinho resolved the issue and sealed the triumph against one of the world’s greatest powers.
Central Miguel Martins, with 5 goals and 7 assists, was the MVP of the match.
