Lungauer Reinhalteverband on troubleshooting – salzburg.ORF.at
environment
Technicians are currently carrying out extensive measurements in the sewer pipe network in the ten municipalities of the central Lungau clean-keeping association. The reason: an unusually high proportion of rain or groundwater. This should not get into the sewage treatment plant.
The wastewater treatment plant in Tamsweg (Lungau) cleans around 4,500 cubic meters of wastewater from Unterberg, St. Margarethen, Mauterndorf, Tweng, Weißpriach, Mariapfarr, Göriach, Lessach, St. Andrä and Tamsweg every day.
Because the proportion of rainwater and groundwater is well above the permitted tolerance, the cleanliness association has started an extensive measurement program, says managing director David Singer: “Radar flow measurements are carried out in the manhole structures in the association sewer. This measures the flow. Based on these measurements, it can be determined where too much water is flowing. It determines how much water is used in the household and how much water arrives at the wastewater treatment plant in Tamsweg. “
Several possible causes
If there is a larger difference here, this is a first indication that water is entering somewhere that is actually not supposed to, says Singer. With camera inspections and smoke pressure tests, possible leaks should then be found, explains Singer.
“First and foremost, one suspects that sewers are damaged somewhere. This is usually a problem if it is in the area of streams or rivers with a high water table, ”says Singer. Because there the water runs uncontrollably into the canal. But there are still other options to be clarified, says Singer: “There are defective manhole covers where rainwater can enter the sewer through the manholes, and it cannot be ruled out that there are any foreign discharges from drainage or surface water,” says Singer.
In any case, every cubic meter of water that does not have to be cleaned in the sewage treatment plant helps to save operating costs, says the head of the clean-keeping association, Singer.
