It’s all a question of perspective: which places appeal to us, which emotions arouse. Everyone has their own personal approach. And that’s exactly what Ellen Harvey is all about. “The disappointed tourist” – under this title she has painted more than 200 pictures in the last two years. Pictures of places that people all over the world associate with special memories, places that die today but no longer exist.
The artist says: “We get all kinds of places. Sometimes there are very good childhood memories, sometimes very sad stories and sometimes places are destroyed by climate change, war or racism. Sometimes there are also very private places such as bars. “

Salzburg gems immortalized
Ellen Harvey has also immortalized some lost Salzburg gems. From the old Mönchsberg lift to the former Stammbeisl to the favorite playground of childhood. Harvey said: “There is so much nostalgia in Salzburg and so many beautiful old things. But of course there are also a lot of beautiful old things missing. And sometimes places that were socially important are missing.
Ellen Harvey is about the stories that associate dying with the no longer existing. The artist therefore paints in the exhibition to get into conversation – currently about a dead tree in Mexico City, for example, and explains: “That was the tree where Cortes apparently stayed, I think – before he killed Montezuma. Someone from there wanted to tell this story. ”“ The disappointed tourist ”should grow – online you can still submit your own personal favorite spots that you have lost.
