“We must follow the example of France”
As we know, in recent weeks, the coronavirus epidemic has been regaining ground in Belgium. The latest figures published by Sciensano this Saturday morning are also nothing to reassure. Between October 27 and November 2, 7,248 new daily infections were recorded, an increase of 11% compared to the previous period of seven days.
Faced with this upsurge in contamination, Yves Coppieters recalls the importance of barrier gestures, and in particular the wearing of a mask. “Today, we are paying for the relaxation of the months of August and September in relation to wearing a mask in certain provinces in Belgium.“, He regretted on the RTBF set.
For the professor of public health at the ULB, the return to wearing an almost generalized mask is inevitable “if we do not want to have consequences on other measures in our private social sphere“.
To support his remarks, the expert relied in particular on the example of our French neighbors. “France is currently an exception in Europe, the indicators there are very positive”, in the beginning. “France had a 4th wave in September, which we did not really have. The French have completely adhered to the barrier gestures since late August / early September and we see that it is the continuity of these barrier gestures that protects the better the European populations today “.
