Traveling Exhibition in two worlds – Moluccans in the Netherlands
The official opening of the Traveling Exhibition ‘In two worlds – Moluccans in the Netherlands’ in Helmond was today, Saturday 6 November. Together meets diverse partners became the exhibition. This went with a number of speakers and a cultural performance known as the Menari.
From 6 to 30 November, a Traveling Exhibition can be seen for residents in the municipality of Helmond. In addition to the national history, the exhibition also shares the local history of the Moluccans. The exhibition is performed in six large sea containers to look, feel and hear. Each container tells a story about the Moluccans then and now. They are set up on the Piet Blomplein near the library.
Opening
The opening speech was spoken by Ciska van Cuijk. This is followed by a number of speakers such as mayor Elly Blanksma, Ton Louhenpessy, Anne Lewerissa and youth mayor Noël Slalahi. In addition, a typical Moluccan dance, the Menari, was performed by a group of young girls. This happened under the guidance of a number of Tifas. Finally, the exhibition was opened by cutting a ribbon. That is what mayor Elly Blanksma and youth mayor Noël Silalahi did. All this to a loud applause from the large numbers of interested parties, including many of Moluccan children.
Initiative
At the beginning of this year, the municipality of Helmond made the gesture to bring the exhibition to Helmond. This was done in consultation with the local Moluccan foundation Ain ni Ain Helmond. The exhibition is a means of making the inhabitants of Helmond aware of the reason why the Moluccans came to the Netherlands in 1951. In addition, it is also a good time to show how far the Moluccans have made it at national and local level, when it comes to their work, hobbies and the like.
Reading
Finally, as part of the activity, a lecture will be given by Noah Fanombi (fourth generation). He is active as an ambassador for the Tanimbar Islands (West-Southeast Moluccas) and is happy to share his experiences there. The lecture is on Sunday 14 November from 13:30 to 14:10 in the Helmond library.
For this lecture you need to book a ticket due to limited places, but admission is free. When placement is kept with 1,5 meters away. If there is great interest, the lecture will be repeated in the repeat, provided that it is registered on the waiting list.
