Netflix in Prague. The robbers are fleeing from Rudolfinum, there is a plane with vampires in Zličín and the tricks are from Vršovice.
In the summer, The Gray Man, the largest and most expensive film in the history of Netflix, was shot in the Czech Republic, starring Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas. From the spy film, however, we have so far only been able to see amateur shots of spectacular action scenes shot in the center of Prague, which escaped on the social network. But you can already watch the latest titles created last year in the Czech Republic on Netflix and Amazon. Do you know your street?
Army of Raiders (on Netflix)
Barracks Sebastian, played by Matthias Schweighöfer, runs away from Prague’s Rudolfinum, which represents a giant bank. He has just managed to open a seemingly impregnable safe and the police are on his heels.
Thanks to the magic of editing, the film gets on the embankment on Rašínovo nábřeží from 17 November Street, from where it leaves by bike along Divadelní Street below Národní třída until it reaches Hradčany. Eventually, he escapes on a wagon that crosses the Vyšehrad railway bridge.
This action sequence is the culmination of the new action comedy Army of Robbers, which serves as a prequel to the horror Army of the Dead on Netflix. In the film, which was directed by Schweighöfer’s comedic talent under the supervision of Zack Snyder, zombies appear only in dream scenes.
On the screen, however, you can safely recognize singer Tonya Graves, stand-up comedian Tigran Hovakimyan or actors Lukáš Tran and Miroslav Pecháček on the screen in smaller roles, who, as one of the police officers, finds out that someone in the Rudolfinum “s * re into systems”.
But Prague got more locations in the film. The congress center, which presents the Interpol headquarters in Lyon, the night streets of Holešovice in Berlin, Franz Kafka Square in Paris and Goethe Square in Mariánské Lázně, has even been played by St. Moritz in Switzerland.
Through the United company, Netflix shot the film in the Czech Republic last autumn and winter according to extremely strict anti-antidote protocols – for example, at the same time Disney sent home the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which was also created in our country.
However, thanks to him, Prague received an absolutely huge and unprecedented advertisement, because the film is currently the most watched title in ninety countries, which could mean tens of millions of views. In addition, filmmakers spent a respectable 370 million crowns in the Czech Republic.
Blood Red Sky (on Netflix)
On the contrary, the real thriller in its strongest passages can be caused by another Netflix thriller, which was also shot in our country last year, but in which you will probably not recognize domestic locations.
The action horror Blood Red Sky by director Peter Thorwarth records kilometers over the Atlantic, over which a plane flies with several unwanted passengers. But they don’t know about themselves.
The flight is hijacked by a group of economic terrorists who kill part of the crew, but they have no idea that there is also a vampire on board who needs to get to New York before the sun rises, so the diversion does not like the diversion even more than other passengers.
Sure, this sounds like an inadvertently humorous béčko, but the Blood Red Sky doesn’t need to prove anything special when it starts an extremely brutal fight over who will control the plane. Know that such a slaughterhouse has not been here since the Bridesmaids aircraft scene.
The Czech production of Sirena Film built a large decoration for the film in Zličín, Prague, where it was filmed for almost sixty days. Other locations in Smilkov, Kouty, Heřmaničky, Arnoštovice, Brno, Prague and Tuřany Airport are Frankfurt Airport and the island’s military air base. The film also features art director Jan Kalous and costume designer Terezie Dvořáková.
Wheel of Time (on Amazon Prime Video from November 19)
In the eight-part fantasy series based on Robert Jordan’s book series of the same name, Rosamund Pike plays a powerful witch who leads a group of five young people, one of whom – the world, wonder – will save humanity from darkness. The wheel of time started filming in the Czech Republic in 2019, but then the cameras stopped due to coronavirus.
This year, however, the filming of the second series is in full swing in the Czech Republic, which will last until March 2022. Pike has been living in Prague for several years, as she humorously described in Jimmy Kimmel’s show. She even took over the Golden Globe from the metropolis for her role in the film Like in Cotton.
The magnificent fantasy series, which is being created all over the Czech Republic, is one of the most expensive projects ever shot in our country. The producers lost two billion crowns in the first series, and the Czech staff then numbers over five hundred people, including the chief architect Ondřej Nekvasil, who provided the scenography for the films Snowpiercer or Underworld: Bloody Wars. However, the Czechs also lead stuntmen or special effects at the Wheel of Time. There are only eighty foreign members of the staff.
The boy they call Christmas (on Netflix since November 24)
The fairy tale Christmas show for the little ones is promised by the fairy tale The Boy, whom they call Christmas, in which a little boy goes to the North Pole to find his lost father. And he discovered spells. According to examples, there will be a lot of elves, digital snow and talking animals, but the filmmakers also used very real locations throughout the Czech Republic.
In the spring of 2019, it was filmed in Křivoklát, in Dobříš, near Čertový hlav, the open-air museum Řepora, Jevan, Lipník, Zvánovický potok, Želíz and Barrandov. The star cast includes acting legend Maggie Smith, comedian Kristen Wiig, or Oscar-winning Jim Broadbent. Of course, expect a fairy tale with dubbing on Netflix.
