Nathaniel Rateliff: a concert in Belgium?
Album While his The future released yesterday, Nathaniel Rateliff spoke about the group’s plans for the coming months.
When our host Dominique Ragheb asked him if an upcoming tour in Europe was planned, he replied: “I hope we will come back in the spring, that’s the idea,” but the singer and his group are waiting to see what will be the health situation at that time. We are therefore crossing our fingers to see him again as soon as possible at home in Belgium, where he usually visits during his tours.
During this meeting, to be discovered in full below, he also explained the recording process of this new album written during confinement. With the majority of the members residing in Denver, Colorado, the band was able to work in Nathaniel Rateliff’s studio together, with the idea of recording this studio album as a live: “A few songs were recorded live in the studio. tried to work this way as much as possible to capture the feelings that you find in songs like “Love Don’t”.
You have already heard this single on Classic 21 and the brass takes up a lot of space, which was not very easy during the recording since these instruments generally sound louder than the rest: “We placed the brass. in another larger room above my studio. We turned on the mics up there, so the brass sounded even. “
“We don’t really know how to play in the same place. The brass takes up a lot of space in terms of sound, but I think we did a good job arranging it all afterwards.”

The artist also offered us two tracks from the next album in a refined acoustic version:
This track, “Baby I have your number”Nathaniel Rateliff spoke about it with Dominique Ragheb: “Actually, it’s mostly about my girlfriend and I who have lived apart for a long time. She lived in New York and I in Colorado. And most of our communications get started by phone or video. “
When our host asked him if it sounded like loneliness, he humorously replied, “Yes and no. This song is supposed to be cute. Not the creepy kind like, ‘Hey, I’m watching you!'”
In another interview, he explained, “I see this album as a big question,” the singer explains in a statement. “When I was writing this album, we were in the middle of a pandemic and our future seemed uncertain. I just tried to write from a place full of hope.”
