“It is the mentality of the group that dictates the law”
From North to South, only in the last week, we have heard about various crimes committed by young people: often minors who group together and create the so-called baby gangs. In Marina Centro, Riminii, only last Tuesday, three North African boys armed with knives tried to rob three shopkeepers, injuring a police officer who had intervened. All three were taken. More examples in the last week: Milan, they stunned passers-by with the taser and then robbed them; Vicenza, on Halloween night, two young people are beaten by a baby gang in the historic center and end up in hospital; Forlì, damage, children and the elderly annoyed in public parks; outskirts of Rome, six boys beat and threatened with death the driver of a bus after having damaged the vehicle.
“It is the group that defines strength – explains the psychotherapist Roberto Ercolani -. When you are in a group you are not able to think, because the group it has a mind of its own, which is no longer that of the individual. So you tend to believe in something you wouldn’t normally do and it becomes much easier to commit crime. These young people need to be given back values, guidelines and education. Parents, the school, the social environment, the institutions: all are responsible for the education of children, who are our future “.
