Cities in the shadow of Prague. Beautiful places that are worth discovering even in autumn

If you want, you can easily walk out. You can walk around the river Berounky, Sázava or calmly Vltava. There are many opportunities.
Bubovice waterfalls
Few people know that a few kilometers behind Prague hides a beautiful stream of Bubovický stream, which in places turns into a waterfall. Although you can’t get a huge volume of water with such wine, the local caves and valleys hidden in a beautiful forest are among the most beautiful places in the Central Bohemian Region. You can easily start the walk in the village of Loděnice, which is known mainly for its production of vinyl records.
After climbing the hill, you will walk to the village of Bubovice, where you can stop for a good lunch, and then enter the forest towards Serbia, lying right next to the Berounka river. A romantic walk, which is also suitable for families with children, will certainly not disappoint you.
Although Loděnice, Bubovice and Serbia are not cities, it doesn’t matter. Nearby you can visit, for example, Beroun, which is guaranteed not to disappoint with its historic center. It is ideal to connect the visit with the weekend markets that prevail on Hus Square. It is also worth mentioning the nearby Svatý Jan pod Skalou, where you will find a monastery with interesting stories and legends.
Podebrady – Nymburk
Cities that are only a few kilometers apart are among the slightly overlooked places for tourism and recreation. Although the interest in local monuments is increasing, there is still something to discover. Of course, Podebrady attracts mainly the spa colonnade and beautiful functionalist architecture. The visitor, where the mineral spring was originally drilled, should not forget the visitor. Who is a true lover of architecture, Podebrady will become such an unexpected rare treasure for him, whether it is hydroelectric power plant with a lock by Antonín Engel, a native. Of course, it is also worth mentioning the number of beautiful villas by Josef Fanta, but also other buildings by František Kerhart.
In addition to churches, squares and other interesting architectural elements, Nymburk also has one great unique. The symbol here is undoubtedly the brick city fortifications. But that’s not all. Also worth seeing are the Marian Column on Přemyslid Square, the Water Tower, but also the purist crematorium according to the plans of architects Bedřich Feuerstein and Bohumil Sláma. Kolín
Jerusalem on the Elbe. This is the name of the city of Kolín, which most of us know mainly thanks to the animated series for children – Come on, sir, we will play. Cologne has much more to offer. An unmissable dominant feature is undoubtedly the Church of St. Bartholomew, which was later completed by the famous architect Petr Parléř. The royal city has a deep history and at the same time a strong connection with the Jewish community. The local ghetto was the second largest after Prague.
To this day it is preserved in the form of beautiful small houses and the Cologne synagogue in Na Hradbách Street. World War II however, it fundamentally spoke to a number of local Jewish communities. 96 percent of deported Jews died in concentration camps.
Kolín has a specific genius loci and you can wander around the romantic Elbe island named after the composer and local native František Kmoch. Important parts of the city are also other architectural gems such as Masaryk Bridge and Cologne Power Plant.
