2,000 in Toulouse in the global climate march
The winter cold did not stop the people of Toulouse. They were nearly 2000 this Saturday afternoon for the global climate march of the COP26 in Toulouse, in the face of “criminal climate inaction of the governments which continue”. As world leaders gather again for COP 26 in Glasgow from November 1-12, a coalition of social and environmental movements launched a day of action around the world this Saturday, November 6, joined by thousands of municipalities in the world, including 158 in France. Several local collectives and associations including Alternatiba, ANV-COP21, Greenpeace Toulouse and Youth For Climate are behind the Toulouse event.
The starting point of the march, initially planned on the Place du Capitole, was moved to the top of the alleys Jean Jaurès by the Toulouse town hall. At 2:30 p.m., the procession set off towards the city center. The march was triggered by the banners and megaphones of the youth of Youth For Climate. All ages are mixed up in the crowd, the youngest are in strollers or on their parents’ shoulders. The demonstration remained in a good mood with songs, dances and no overflow.
“I’m here today because I’m fed up with inaction, hypocrisy, and I want things to change because we’re running into a wall,” says Robinson, a 25-year-old Toulouse man. Accompanied by her granddaughter, Sophie, a 40-year-old Toulouse woman, is there out of “desire to save the planet”. “I am far from the COP so I am here to show that I am concerned and that my voice matters. I take this opportunity to pass these values on to new generations, ”she continues, pointing to her child.
The march called for the transition to climate and social justice, the stopping of fossil fuels, facade “zero emissions”, the abandonment of new road projects to promote an ambitious policy of development of intra-urban and inter-urban public transport. -urban.
