Ye ‘at gunpoint’ due to misunderstanding in Belgium | Show
American rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was standing in the Belgian town of Wijnegem near Antwerp at the beginning of September by a similar weapon drawn, reports Belgium. The Minos police zone informs the Belgian news agency that it was a misunderstanding.
Ye and his security guard wore a full-coverage face mask on a hot summer’s day and paid to take the mask off when an inspector asked for it. “It was a sultry summer day and we received a report that two fully masked men were walking around. A colleague found them, but the two proceeded to take off their masks – in hindsight probably because they did not understand Dutch and so the question was not based,” said Johan Wonnink. The police inspector covers his weapon.
Ye, who talks about the incident in a recent podcast Drink Champs, claim he was held at gunpoint. But that is not true, according to the police commissioner. “Our colleague has his weapon in the form”low ready‘ held position: facing the ground at a 45-degree angle, to indicate that it is ready for cohesive use,’ says Wonnink. The misunderstanding was quickly resolved, he said. It is not known why Ye walked around in Wijnegem. He would have recently bought in the region, but the police were not aware of this.
In the podcast Ye, known for hits like Flashing lights and strongerwas shocked by the incident. “When the officer passed his weapon, I thought that my life,” said the rapper, who says he can now laugh about it.
