After one and a half of health crisis and a few months before the 2022 presidential election, the government is looking at the bedside of health and the public hospital. Traveling to Montpellier (Herault), and in particular at the CHU de la Cité Pailladine, Friday, November 5, 2021, Prime Minister Jean Castex unveiled the amount of investments for health, as part of the Ségur de la santé et de the regional strategy for Ségur investments in Occitanie for the period 2021-2029.
More than 1.6 billion euros invested in Occitania
In our region, more than 1.6 billion euros will be invested, “Including 1.42 billion for the health sector and 220 million euros for the medico-social sector”, indicates the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Occitanie. Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, specifies that “267 projects have been prioritized”.
90 million for the regional children’s hospital
In Haute-Garonne, the heaviest investment concerned the construction of a large regional children’s hospital (GHRE) “and the reunification of the disciplines of Rangueil and Larrey”, specifies the ARS, with state aid of 90.3 million euros.
In May 2021, during his visit to the Toulouse University Hospital, the Secretary of State for Children, Adrien Taquet, had the project presented by Professor Laurent Schmitt, President of the Establishment Medical Commission (CME) of the CHU, and various department heads.
In the Pink City, pediatric emergencies receive 54,000 visits per year. “The emergency service is overcrowded. It was initially planned to accommodate 20,000 patients. It is therefore easy to understand that we are completely stuck in square meters which have become insufficient, ”warned Professor Isabelle Claudet, responsible for pediatric emergencies at the CHU at the time. In five years, pediatric emergencies have experienced a 30% resumption of activity.
Toulouse University Hospital hoped for more
A new building must be built on one of the parking lots. It will house an extension dedicated to emergencies and pediatric radiology. At the same time, the project involves an extension of the adolescent clinic and a new building for the neonatal department. These three achievements are part of a first delivery phase expected for 2025.
Of the 147 million euros that this structuring project costs, the CHU hoped to receive 110 million euros from the state. It will ultimately be 90 million euros.
Debt paid off
Also in the Pink City, many Ehpad (Accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people) will be helped, either for the rehabilitations of buildings, extensions or simply for “restoring the financing margins”. In short: the State will pay off the debts of many health establishments for the elderly but also institutions of the Pink City like Joseph Ducuing Hospital (over 280,000 euros) eat the Claudius Regaud Institute (over 626,000 euros).
On the other hand, the State does not go hand in hand with the wallet to assassinate the accounts of the CHU, the latter having indicated, in June 2021, to have improved its situation with a deficit of two million euros in 2020, against 30 million. euros in 2015.
The walking hospital helped
Behind the GHRE, the Toulouse establishment where Ségur’s second largest investment will be made is the Gérard Marchant hospital center, south of town.
More than 6.4 million euros will be spent for the “regrouping of the device of adolescents” and “the construction of a care center in Muret”, details the government.
The clinics, dependent on the private sector, have not been forgotten with an aid of 500,000 euros for the extension-rehabilitation of the Monié clinic, in Villefranche-de-Lauragais or “the improvement of care pathways and conditions reception ”of the Pyrenees clinic in Colomiers (320,000 euros).
41 projects supported
In all, 41 projects will be financially supported in Haute-Garonne. Investments spread over the whole territory with in particular, in Lauragais, 6.2 million euros for the restructuring of the Revel hospital, or 3.9 million for the construction of sectors in Saint-Gaudens.
