The tree for the Old Town Square grew near Jablonec nad Nisou
Norway spruce grows in the garden of private land. “Although it is not one of the tallest trees that decorated the center of the metropolis in the past, it is beautifully grown and evenly branched. The owner decided for safety reasons,” said spokesperson for market operator Hana Tietze. The winner for the tree will receive a symbolic reward of 10 crowns. The conifer has already examined the dendrologist and according to preliminary reports he is OK.
As in previous years, this year people offered their trees, which would have to be felled for objective reasons. “It is partly a question of prestige, every year it becomes the most famous Christmas tree in the Czech Republic. This year, it grew over a hundred kilometers northeast of the Old Town Square, which it will decorate until the beginning of January, “said Prague Councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09).
This year, too, Taiko teamed up with the city company Technologie of the Capital City of Prague, which takes care of the felling and decorating of the tree. “We are glad that the company, which will ceremoniously illuminate the whole of Prague, will help with Christmas spruce this year as well. We appreciate the cooperation with the city company, “said Libor Votruba, the head of Taiko’s market operator.
The technology company of the Capital City of Prague will provide a Christmas tree on Old Town Square for the second year in a row. “After last year’s experience in that it is a relatively logistically demanding event, but we are happy to take on the task. We plan to cut down the tree on the penultimate Sunday of November so that it can shine in front of the Týn Cathedral in Prague on the first weekend of Advent, “said Tomáš Jílek, Chairman of the Board of Technology of the Capital City of Prague.
If the situation with covid-19 does not adjust to significant restrictions, the tree should light up on Old Town Square in Prague on Saturday, November 27, 2021, when the Christmas markets will also begin.
