The first joint housing for adult autistic people, Nový domov, will be built in the Brno region
As a result, six people with disabilities become independent from their families, who often no longer manage to take care of them, but at the same time remain in the constant care of professionals.
“People who won 90 again early. years, today they are on the threshold of thirty. they still live with their family. Year-round residential services are not for them. The name New Home means that adult autistic people will gradually learn to live elsewhere and acquire a new home there, “said Jana Hubová, the manager of the New Home project. At the same time, they will stay in touch with the family who lives nearby and with the community.
Specific people with autism spectrum disorder were selected based on whether they could get along. In the New Home, they will gradually master their social habits and, within the limits of their disability, will live a normal life. “They can help rake leaves, water, bring something or take away. It is a meaningful activity, I will get involved and get used to it, “said Hubová. She added that they are already well received in short-term training in the village.
The authors of the New Home project were inspired in Spain and still with local experts, but they also collaborate in Ireland and countries where similar facilities have been operating for a long time. “It is said a lot to stay at home for autistic people. Which, of course, is true. But he sees little that parents are aging and unable to care. We are not immortal and we will die one day. And it is necessary to decide in advance what will happen to autistic people who have lost their loved ones and cannot stay alone in the original house, “Hubová explained the motivation for the creation of the home. According to her, the project could help start the emergence of additional community housing for autistic people.
The purchase of the house and the reconstruction cost over 26.5 million crowns. The association applied for subsidies from the European Union. “These are usually paid back only, but the project needs initial funding for construction work. These funds will provide Brno in the form of repayable financial assistance in the amount of 780,000 crowns, “said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS). The municipality has previously contributed two million, as has the South Moravian Region. Over three million come from donations and loans from municipalities in the Šlapanice region. He gradually introduces other gifts as well.
The reconstruction of the building should be completed in January 2023, when the autistic people move in at the same time.
