November 6 Extinction Rebellion Lietuva takes to the streets in Vilnius: COP26 – We are watching you

November 6 this year. 12:00 A procession for climate justice will take place in Vilnius COP26 – We are watching you. Organizers: movement Extinction Rebellion Lithuania (Rebellion before extinction). The march will start in the Cathedral Square, end at the Lithuanian National M. Mažvydas Library, where a microphone will be provided to the representatives of the communities and performances of artists will take place.

The reason for the march is November 1-12. The United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland. It is an annual event that brings together world leaders to tackle the global pollution, climate and ecological crisis together.

This event is described as the most important annual event in the world, determining the future of us all.

Selfish, polluting, and power-driven human activities are changing our country, continent, and world catastrophically. Nature is being destroyed, leading to a deterioration in our physical and emotional health, uncontrollable forest fires during summer, droughts, floods, hurricanes, people migrating to a less affected country from food and water shortages, and most vulnerable and resource-poor groups.

The COP will be held for the 26th time, and the results are still pending. For this reason, climate activists around the world are watching this conference, also expressing criticism and demanding changes during various campaigns.

With thousands of other activists around the world, we take to the streets that day, November 6, because we want to tell world leaders that we care, we want to live and secure a bright future for ourselves and future generations. Extinction Rebellion Lithuania encourages everyone to wake up, unite and demand change.

The main requirements for Lithuanian governing institutions, media and polluting companies are:

  1. To tell the truth about the critical intensity of pollution in Lithuania and our planet, why and what real consequences it has caused us – what threats await people and all the biodiversity around us.
  2. Act now halting biodiversity loss and greenhouse gas emissions.
  3. Give power to involve citizens in decision-making through citizens’ assemblies.

We are organizing a theatrical march: there will be various artistic elements, the march will be accompanied by activists dressed in costumes. It will be a colorful, peaceful and memorable procession.

And it will be followed by musical and cultural performances. Representatives of Lithuanian communities will gather, who will be given the floor to express their concerns directly and clearly: what problems of pollution and nature destruction they have to face, what they are going through.

The event program:

11:00 Start of the event in the Cathedral Square, preparation for the procession

12:00 Start of the procession

13:00 Start of the event at M. Mažvydas library
