Prague – In Prague, it concerns the termination of the activities of some energy suppliers and the transition to a supplier of last resort (DPI) in the case of electricity supplies 65,000 offtake points and in gas 38,000. The municipality’s management therefore called on residents to leave the DPI regime as soon as possible due to higher prices than normal customers. Prague councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09) and Prague Energy spokesman (PRE) Petr Holubec told the press.
In October, 900,000 clients of Bohemia Energy found themselves in the DPI regime, which ceased operations. Other supplier energies also ended, which affected thousands of customers. Clients were taken over for half a year by so-called suppliers of last resort. However, they imposed people several times higher advances than they had paid so far.
“In Prague, the suppliers of last resort are PRE and Pražská plynárenská (PP). Both have started sending out calls for customers who have fallen into DPI to register with regular suppliers as soon as possible,” said Chabr.
How many people or entrepreneurs in particular fell due to the crisis in the supply of energy to the DPI, but it is not clear. According to Chabr, it will be more than 100,000 people in Prague, because the collection points often do not include only one person, but more people. “There are multi-member households, entrepreneurs, so it is not possible to estimate the exact number of people affected by the new situation,” said Chabr.
According to Holubec, PRE is now contacted by thousands of people. According to him, the social or age composition of applicants cannot be estimated. “We only got contacts. We go into the unknown, there are tens of thousands of unknown people for us. For our regular customers, we are able to predict and know their consumption, but not for these,” he said. “We need to agree and estimate consumption with each person,” Holubec added. Therefore, it may take several days to process the request.
Customers who have fallen into DPI will now have to start paying the prescribed deposit in advance, but it should be spread over time. According to Chabr, the problem with the price is that companies have not purchased energy for such an increase in the number of customers, so I have to buy it now and the price is higher.
However, Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček said on Twitter on Wednesday that the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) and the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) had agreed with suppliers of last resort (DPI) to reduce energy advances for DPI clients in November and December by 50 percent and 40 percent, respectively, of the assessed amount.
