First parts of the Netherlands to European alert level | Inland
It is the first time since July that parts of the Netherlands have reached the highest level. At the beginning of October, the Netherlands was completely orange, the second lowest level.
The card is used by the European health service ECDC, the organization to which the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) is a member. The service looks at the number and percentage of positive tests in the two previous calendar weeks. The European corona map has four colors. From low to high these are green, orange, red and dark red.
Limburg is the largest fire source of the provinces. In the past two weeks, the period ECDC is looking at, more than 7800 have tested positive there. Converted, that comes down to about 703 confirmed infections for every 100,000 Limburgers. For the province is the highest level since April. After Limburg, Gelderland (completed 589 positive tests per 100,000), Overijssel (566), Zeeland (534) and Utrecht (512).
Fastest riser
North Brabant is the fastest climber. There were 433 positive tests for every 100,000 people from Brabant in the past two calendar weeks, an increase of more than 57 percent ten compared to the current card, which was used last Thursday.
Groningen is relatively the ‘quietest’ in the Netherlands. There were 268 positive tests per 100,000 people in the past two weeks, an increase of ‘only’ 31.
High-risk area
Countries can decide on the basis of the map to tighten the rules for travelers from other countries. For example, Germany could designate the Netherlands as a ‘Hochrisikogebiet’. If that happens, people who have been to the Netherlands must report their arrival online to the German government before departure. They also have to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, that they have recently tested negative, or that they have just recovered from an infection.
